Job summary

The Los Angeles County Bar Association - LACBA is seeking an experienced litigation attorney to assist with employment, administrative, and business disputes on a remote, independent-contractor basis. The role includes case intake, research, drafting pleadings, and discovery work.

Responsibilities include preparing for depositions, hearings, and trials, with the possibility of serving as second chair. Some in-person appearances in the Los Angeles area may be required.

Qualifications

Job description

Position Overview

Contractor Pay: $75.00 - $125.00 per hour depending on experience.

The attorney will assist with substantive litigation matters involving employment disputes, administrative proceedings, and business litigation.

Matters may include:

• Harassment
• Discrimination
• Retaliation
• Due process violations
• Employment-related administrative proceedings
• Business and commercial disputes

Responsibilities may include:

• Case evaluation and client intake
• Legal research and analysis
• Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court filings
• Preparing and responding to written discovery
• Reviewing and analyzing evidence and case records
• Preparing for depositions, administrative hearings, and court proceedings
• Assisting with hearing and trial preparation
• Serving as second chair at hearings and trials when appropriate

Qualifications

• Active member in good standing of the State Bar of California
• Minimum 3 years of litigation experience
• Employment litigation and/or business litigation experience strongly preferred
• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and communicate reliably in a remote environment
• Located in or near the Los Angeles area and available for occasional in-person appearances when necessary

Preferred Experience

Experience handling healthcare-related disputes or matters is helpful but not required.
