Job summary

LHH seeks a Senior Employee Relations Specialist to advise leaders on complex ER matters, conduct thorough investigations, and ensure compliance with laws across the organization. The role focuses on performance management, disciplinary actions, and fair workplace practices.

You will lead investigations, partner with Legal and Operations, develop policies, and coach managers on progressive discipline and terminations while supporting broader HR initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive employee relations experience.
  • 3+ years handling complex investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws.
  • Discretion, neutrality, and professionalism in high-conflict situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

Responsibilities

  • Advise managers and HR leaders on complex employee relations matters, including performance issues, workplace conflicts, policy violations, and separations.
  • Lead objective, thorough investigations involving harassment, discrimination, retaliation, misconduct, and policy violations.
  • Partner with leadership on labor relations matters, including grievances, collective bargaining agreement interpretation, and regulatory proceedings.
  • Develop, review, and update employee relations policies and procedures to support compliance with federal and state employment laws.
  • Coach managers on progressive discipline, performance improvement plans, and termination decisions.
  • Identify employee relations trends and recommend strategies to mitigate organizational risk and potential claims.
  • Support responses to regulatory agency inquiries, charges, and information requests.
  • Develop and deliver manager training on employee relations, workplace conduct, investigations, and documentation practices.
  • Manage sensitive terminations, reductions in force, severance processes, and exit interviews.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Operations, and other cross-functional teams on employee relations matters.
  • Provide support across other HR functions and projects as business needs require.

Job description

We are seeking a Senior Employee Relations Specialist to serve as a trusted advisor on complex employee relations matters across the organization. This role leads employee relations initiatives, conducts workplace investigations, advises leaders on performance management and corrective action, ensures compliance with employment laws, and promotes a fair, consistent, and legally sound workplace.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive employee relations experience, including at least 3 years handling complex investigations and advisory matters.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, leave laws, wage and hour requirements, and applicable employment regulations.
  • Demonstrated discretion, sound judgment, neutrality, and professionalism when handling sensitive and high-conflict situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex matters effectively.
  • Strong relationship-building skills across all levels of an organization.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting unionized workforces, including grievance processes and collective bargaining agreement administration.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Experience in operationally intensive or highly regulated environments.
  • Experience with multi-state employment law and employee relations.
