Job summary

EXP is seeking a Structural Engineer in Chicago to join the Infrastructure – Transportation practice. You will work under the Bridges & Structures department manager on highway and railway structures, including design, analysis, and inspection across multiple project types for IDOT, Tollway, CTA, Metra, and more.

The position requires an MS in Civil Engineering – Structures, EIT (on track to PE/SE), and 4+ years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• MS in Civil Engineering – Structures track is required.
• EIT certification is required or on track to earn PE/SE.
• 4+ years progressively responsible relevant experience.
• Bridge Inspection experience is preferred.
• Prior experience with complex bridge projects.
• Knowledge of bridge analysis, design and detailing per IDOT, Tollway, CDOT, CTA, Metra and local agencies and design codes (AASHTO, AREMA).
• Knowledge of structural analysis software MDX, LARSA, RCPier is a plus; proficiency with MicroStation and AutoCAD is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Structural design for all project types, including complex bridges.
• Schematic/geometric layout design of new structures.
• Perform analysis and design calculations per applicable design codes; use computer programs as appropriate.
• Conduct load rating analysis for bridges.
• Prepare plan drawings and details, construction specs and calculations.
• On-site inspection, analysis and condition assessment of existing structures.
• Construction phase engineering support including reviews of shop drawings and RFIs.
• Assist project managers with scoping and budgeting for structural work and ensure quality of deliverables.
