Job summary

Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH) in Duluth, MN is seeking a Construction Services Engineer to join our Construction Services team. You will participate in field activities, provide on-site representation for transportation projects, and travel to project sites as needed while applying engineering knowledge to support construction duties.

The position requires a B.S. in Civil Engineering, strong communication, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to present information professionally.
• Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
• Ability to calculate project quantities accurately.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
• Willingness to learn construction administration software.
• Commitment to SEH's Quality and Safety standards.
• Familiarity with Civil 3D is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Participate in field activities on projects with varying levels of complexity and construction conditions.
• Provide on-site representation for transportation projects, supporting documentation, material testing, and survey coordination.
• Travel to project sites as needed to complete field responsibilities.
• Apply engineering and technical knowledge to support construction-related duties.
• Assist with field observations to ensure conformance with contract documents.
• Maintain daily documentation of certified work and enter quantities into records or contract software.
• Communicate with engineers, contractors, landowners, utility companies, and public stakeholders on progress and concerns.
• Monitor contractor schedules and construction progress, reporting updates to senior staff and project managers.
• Assist in developing project punch lists and compiling final documentation per contract requirements.
• Help prepare record drawings and maintain project files and digital records.
• Monitor on-site contractor activities under supervision and elevate complex issues as needed.
