Our client is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits Compliance Attorney to join its specialized employee benefits practice. This attorney will advise multiemployer and Taft-Hartley benefit plans on a broad range of ERISA, employee benefits, compliance, governance, and regulatory matters. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with ERISA and multiemployer benefit plans and be comfortable working directly with trustees, plan administrators, and other plan professionals. Responsibilities
- Advise multiemployer and Taft-Hartley benefit plans on ERISA and employee benefits compliance matters.
- Provide legal guidance to boards of trustees, fiduciaries, plan administrators, and other plan representatives.
- Analyze and interpret ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, DOL, IRS, PBGC, and other applicable regulations and guidance.
- Advise clients regarding plan administration, governance, fiduciary responsibilities, and operational compliance.
- Review, draft, and amend plan documents, trust agreements, policies, procedures, notices, and related employee benefits materials.
- Assist with compliance issues involving pension, health and welfare, and other employee benefit plans.
- Research emerging legislation, regulations, and agency guidance affecting multiemployer benefit plans.
- Assist clients with regulatory inquiries, audits, and communications with government agencies.
- Advise on issues involving contributions, delinquency matters, withdrawal liability, funding, plan amendments, and other multiemployer-plan matters.
- Attend and participate in client and trustee meetings.
- Work closely with other attorneys, actuaries, consultants, administrators, and plan professionals to develop practical solutions.
- Manage multiple client matters while maintaining strong attention to detail and deadlines.
- Draft legal memoranda, client correspondence, compliance updates, and other written materials.
- Stay current on developments in ERISA and employee benefits law and communicate relevant changes to clients.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active District of Columbia Bar license in good standing required.
- Experience practicing employee benefits and/or ERISA law.
- Experience with multiemployer/Taft-Hartley plans strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of ERISA and related employee benefits regulations.
- Experience advising benefit plans, trustees, fiduciaries, employers, or other plan stakeholders.
- Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex legal and regulatory issues clearly to both legal and non-legal audiences.
- Strong client-service skills and the ability to work directly with senior stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple matters independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary up to $175,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
