Job summary

Jobtailor in Morristown, NJ seeks a Health Information Management specialist to maintain the Master Patient Index, ensure patient data is linked to a unique EMPI, and perform chart corrections.

You will analyze queues, verify duplicates, respond to inquiries, and collaborate with internal and external partners to resolve complex chart issues while upholding compliance standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Associate degree in HIM or related field.
• RHIA or RHIT credential preferred.
• Experience in Acute Care Hospital preferred.
• Epic experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain Master Patient Index and ensure data linked to a unique EMPI.
• Analyze work queues to identify records to merge or correct.
• Perform chart corrections and EMPI maintenance.
• Review clinical and demographic information for accuracy.
• Verify duplicate numbers are assigned to the same person.
• Respond to calls and emails related to duplicates.
• Collaborate with internal/external customers to resolve chart issues.
• Identify areas of non-compliance with policies.
• Reduce duplicate records and registration errors.
• Apply critical thinking and decision-making.

Job description

• Maintain the integrity of the enterprise-wide Master Patient Index and ensure patient health information resides under a unique EMPI number


• Analyze work queues to identify medical records to be merged or corrected


• Analyze, assess, and perform chart corrections and EMPI maintenance


• Perform analytical reviews of clinical and demographic information


• Verify assignment of duplicate numbers to the same person to ensure patient safety


• Respond timely to incoming calls and emails related to duplicates


• Communicate and collaborate with internal and external customers to resolve complex chart issues


• Identify and communicate areas of non-compliance with established policies and procedures


• Help decrease duplicate medical records, registration errors, and other medical record errors


• Apply critical thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities


• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor or Associate degree in Health Information Management, Health, Information Technology, or related field, or Bachelor or Associate degree with two years of related experience


• Experience working in an Acute care hospital or relevant area preferred


• RHIA or RHIT credential preferred


• Skills, knowledge, and abilities gained through 0–2 years of related experience


• Epic experience preferred
