Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Early Career Structural (Buildings) Engineer to join our Federal Programs Team. The role offers broad exposure to design through construction-phase support at multiple U.S. locations including Seattle and Tacoma.

You will work under mentorship, perform structural analysis and drafting, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams on federal projects for defense and public-sector clients. A Bachelor's degree in structural engineering is required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or equivalent.
0–1 year of structural engineering experience (internship or co-op acceptable).
Analytical mindset with ability to research codes, standards, and project requirements.
Basic familiarity with structural building codes and design standards.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking in a dynamic environment.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet objectives.
Basic proficiency with technical writing and common software/tools.
Familiarity with structural analysis/design/drafting software such as RISA-3D, ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Concept, SAFE, Revit, or AutoCAD.
Commitment to safety policies and project-specific procedures.
Willingness to travel occasionally and work in US locations.

Responsibilities

Develop engineering judgment through mentorship, design reviews, and cross-disciplinary coordination.
Assist structural analysis and design of new and existing buildings including gravity and lateral systems, foundations and structural components.
Prepare structural drawings, calculations, and design documentation using site observations and project data.
Perform routine structural calculations and use software to evaluate loads and design members and connections.
Coordinate structural requirements with architecture, civil, geotechnical, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.
Prepare calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and BIM models using engineering software.
Participate in site visits and construction-phase services, documenting conditions and progress, reviewing submittals, and handling RFIs.
Complete required company, safety, and project training.
Adhere to WSP Code of Conduct and policies; manage resources responsibly.
Fulfill additional duties as needed by business needs.
