BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency team. The role includes anesthesia monitoring, triage, radiography, and critical patient care in a fast-paced setting.

The position offers a competitive hourly wage with shift differentials for nights and weekends, commensurate with experience. A collaborative team and ongoing professional development are provided.

Qualifications

• Experienced Veterinary Technician with emergency setting exposure.
• Proficient in anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery.
• Strong triage skills for incoming emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergencies and assess vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and positioning.
• Understand normal vital sign ranges and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vitals; communicate changes.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Perform medical calculations and administer medications.
• Phlebotomy and placement of IV catheters in peripheral vessels.
• Place feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train co-workers.
• Address client concerns with patience.
• Perform additional relevant responsibilities.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our skilled Emergency team!

Schedule: Ideally 2pm - 2am, flexible sched, rotating weekends

Pay: $24.50 - $49.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.00/hr. Shift Differential


• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.00/hr. Shift Differential


• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.50/hr. Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.


• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.


• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.


• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.


• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.


• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.


• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.


• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.


• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.


• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.


• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.


• Perform additional relevant job responsibilities.
