BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our skilled Emergency team. Ideal candidates will induce, monitor and recover anesthesia, triage emergencies, perform digital radiography, and monitor vital signs.

Qualifications

• Experience as an Emergency Veterinary Technician in a fast-paced setting.
• Proficient in anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases, obtain vitals, and communicate findings to Veterinarian.
• Perform digital radiography with correct technique and patient positioning.
• Monitor and interpret vital signs and respond to changes.
• Perform phlebotomy and place IV catheters in peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central lines as needed.
• Mentor and train other staff members and address client concerns.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our skilled Emergency team!

Schedule:

Ideally 2pm - 2am, flexible sched, rotating weekends

Pay:

$24.50 - $49.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

Shift Differential Pay:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.00/hr Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.00/hr Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.50/hr Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
• Perform additional relevant job responsibilities.
