VEG ER for Pets is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant in Clifton, NJ. You’ll support the team from day one, assist with triage, treatments, and diagnostics, and help ensure compassionate care for pets and their families.

This role offers growth opportunities through structured training pathways, CPR/RECOVER training, and exposure to anesthesia support and ultrasound. Join a fast-paced team focused on exceptional ER care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Able to stand for prolonged hours; lift up to 40 kg with assistance.
• Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays; noisy environment.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Work with technicians and veterinarians to set up anesthesia and monitor cases.
• Set up IV fluids, blood products, and medication administration.
• Participate in rounds and ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced roles through guided training pathways.
