Job summary

VEG is hiring a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support our ER team in fast-paced hospitals. You’ll triage, assist with treatments, monitor patients, and support veterinarians and technicians while caring for pets and their families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus)
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity
• Excellent communicator with pets' families and team
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours, lift up to 25 kg solo and up to 40 kg with assistance

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics
• Work with technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation cases
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood products, and meds
• Support during outpatient or inpatient care and rounds
• Learn CPR and RECOVER training through provided instruction
