Job summary

VEG ER for Pets is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be at the heart of our fast-paced ER. You will support the team, comfort pet parents, and learn the ropes in real time—from triage to treatment, across both outpatient and inpatient care.

You will grow with us through guided training pathways, including CPR and RECOVER certification, with opportunities to expand into anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization as you advance your career.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Able to stand long hours and lift up to 25 kg (40 kg with assistance).
• Willing to work in noisy environments with odors and nights/weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients and guide toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics including bloodwork and imaging.
• Support anesthesia and sedation setup with credentialed staff.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood products, and meds.
• Assist during both outpatient and inpatient care, from exam to treatment areas.
• Join rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Grow into advanced roles like anesthesia support and ultrasound through training.
• Comply with state law and hospital policies.
