Job summary

VEG is hiring an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced team. From day one, you'll support your colleagues, comfort pet parents, and learn the ropes in real time as you assist with triage, treatments, and care.

You'll grow through guided training pathways toward anesthesia support, ultrasound, and advanced procedures, with opportunities for mentorship, CE, and a clear path to credentialed technician roles within a dynamic, people-centered ER environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrollment in AVMA-accredited vet tech program a plus.
• 1+ year in veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Able to stand, lift up to 25 kg, work in noisy environment with odors.
• Willing to work nights, weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients, guide to care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging, catheter, oxygen).
• Work with technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation setups.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, meds.
• Support care across outpatient and inpatient areas; from exam room to treatment area.
• Join rounds to maintain continuity of care.
