Job summary

VEG is seeking a part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our team and be in the heart of the action from day one. You will support your team, comfort pet parents, and learn the ropes in real time across triage, treatments, and patient care.

You'll collaborate with credentialed technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and provide ongoing care. Training pathways lead toward advanced responsibilities within a dynamic ER environment.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a veterinary setting is preferred, especially in emergency care.
• Good communication with pet parents and the team is essential.
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 kg with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients, and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging.
• Work with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia setup and monitoring.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, transfusions, and medications.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings and participate in rounds to maintain continuity.
• Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
• Grow into advanced tasks such as anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization through training.
