Job summary

VEG ER for Pets in Atlanta is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to jump in from day one, supporting your team, comforting pet parents, and learning on the job across triage, treatments, and patient care.

You will work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians, assist with anesthesia, IV fluids, diagnostics, and monitoring, and grow into advanced roles through guided training pathways, nights and weekends required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR software understanding.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Ability to stand, lift up to 25 kg, and work in a noisy, odor-rich environment.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage incoming patients, and guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork and imaging.
• Support anesthesia and sedation setup with clinicians.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, transfusions, and meds administration.
• Assist during outpatient or inpatient care from exam room to treatment area.
• Join rounds and stay close to clinical picture for continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certified rescuer training (provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities via guided training pathways.
• As permitted by state law.
