Job summary

VEG ER for Pets is seeking a part-time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support the team in a fast-paced ER setting. You will assist with triage, treatments, and nursing care while learning procedures and protocols in real time.

You'll work closely with credentialed technicians and veterinarians, taking part in anesthesia support, ultrasound, and other advanced duties as you grow. Nights, weekends, and holidays are required on a rotating basis in a busy hospital.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ year in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and a steady support, triaging incoming patients and helping guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, from bloodwork and imaging to catheter placement and oxygen support.
• Work alongside credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Assist during every moment of care: outpatient or inpatient, exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds and stay close to the clinical picture to ensure continuity of care.
