Job summary

VEG is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant in Pennsylvania to support triage, treatments, and patient care from day one. You will assist with nursing, diagnostics, anesthesia setup, and ongoing monitoring alongside credentialed technicians and veterinarians.

Responsibilities cover both outpatient and inpatient care, with training pathways toward advanced roles such as anesthesia support and ultrasound. Nights, weekends, and holidays are required on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR/practice management software familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with your team and pet parents.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and a steady support, triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
• Work with credentialed veterinary technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings, from exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds to stay aligned with the clinical picture.
