Job summary

VEG ER for Pets in Pittsburgh seeks an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support the ER team from day one, triage patients, assist with treatments, and comfort pet parents. You will work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians to ensure timely care and learning opportunities.

You'll gain experience in anesthesia setup, IV management, CPR training, and progress toward advanced responsibilities through structured pathways and mentorship.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with team.
• Manage IV fluids, blood products, and medications.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings.
• Join rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Progress to advanced tasks via guided training.
