Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant in Pittsburgh, PA. You’ll be at the heart of the action, supporting a team, comforting pet parents, and learning on the job—from triage to treatments and aftercare.

You’ll grow through training pathways, with opportunities to advance toward credentialed technician roles while working in a fast-paced, environment-rich hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR software knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Able to lift up to 25 kg; assist up to 40 kg with help.
• Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays; fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, diagnostics, and imaging.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with clinicians.
• Manage IV fluids, transfusions, and medications.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings.
