Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinarian to join a nationwide network of 24/7 ER hospitals. You’ll provide high-quality care, mentor teammates, and grow your career in a supportive, learning-oriented culture.

This role involves handling emergencies, surgeries, and exotic cases, with on-floor guidance, VEG Education programs, and flexible schedules designed to fit your life while delivering outstanding care to pets and their families.

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent degree required.
• Experience in emergency medicine and emergency surgery.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule.
• Stand kneel and lift up to 25 kg; ability to lift up to 40 kg with assistance.
• Must be able to work in a noisy environment with strong odors.
• Team-oriented in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Answer medical questions over the phone.
• See patients immediately as part of VEG triage and care pathways.
• Gather signalment, presenting complaint, vitals, and exam findings.
• Perform physical exams, imaging, bloodwork, and biopsies as needed.
• Create a diagnostic and treatment plan and communicate with clients.
• Prepare estimates and present them to clients.
• Maintain accurate medical records and ensure quality care.
• Discuss tests and treatments with clients and address concerns.
• Support on-call and emergency surgeries as required.
• Educate clients on aftercare and preventive measures.
