Job summary

VEG is seeking an Emergency Veterinarian to join our 24/7 emergency team in New York. You will manage cases from triage through treatment, performing surgeries, endoscopy, and complex diagnostics with support from a mentorship-driven environment.

You’ll collaborate with a diverse team, handle urgent cases, educate clients on care plans, and contribute to a culture that values growth, patient welfare, and client service in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent degree required.
• Must have strong emergency medicine interest.
• Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Able to work in a fast-paced hospital.

Responsibilities

• Answer medical questions over the phone.
• See patients immediately as part of VEG triage and VEG Spikes.
• Gather signalment, presenting complaint, vitals, and exam.
• Perform physical exams and diagnostic tests (ultrasounds, X-rays, bloodwork, biopsies).
• Create a diagnostic and therapeutic plan.
• Communicate diagnosis and treatment options to customers.
• Prepare estimates and present them to customers.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Explain value of tests and treatments to customers.
• Perform emergency surgeries.
• Perform endoscopic procedures.
• Educate customers on aftercare and prevention.
