Job summary

Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, TX, is seeking an experienced veterinarian for an emergency/critical care role. This full-time position offers 12/12-hour shifts per month and a $20,000 sign-on bonus, with collaboration across a large specialty team within Ethos Veterinary Health.

You’ll work alongside more than 70 veterinarians, participate in advanced emergency procedures, and contribute to a culture of growth, innovation, and compassionate patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for Texas veterinary licensure.
  • Internship completion or minimum two years in emergency medicine.
  • Strong skills in emergency stabilization, diagnostics, and critical case management.
  • Confident in managing emergencies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication with clients, colleagues, and referring veterinarians.
  • Sound clinical judgment, adaptability, and composure under pressure.
  • Collaborative mindset and commitment to compassionate, high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality emergency and critical care to a diverse caseload of companion animals.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical conditions.
  • Provide comprehensive emergency care through a balanced mix of receiving new emergency cases, triaging incoming patients, and managing hospitalized patients throughout their course of treatment.
  • Perform emergency procedures and stabilize critically ill or injured patients using evidence-based medicine.
  • Collaborate closely with GCVS specialists, veterinarians, House Officers, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.

In your day-to-day, you will:

What You Bring
  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for Texas veterinary licensure.
  • Completion of a small animal rotating internship (or equivalent training), or a minimum of two years of emergency medicine experience.
  • Strong skills in emergency stabilization, diagnostics, and critical case management.
  • Confidence managing emergency cases and making sound clinical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with clients, colleagues, and referring veterinarians.
  • Sound clinical judgment, adaptability, and composure under pressure.
