Job summary

VEG is hiring a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to be in the heart of the action from day one, supporting the team, comforting pet parents, and learning on the spot. You’ll engage in triage, treatments, and the full care continuum in a fast-paced ER.

You'll grow with the team, with opportunities to become credentialed technicians or expand into anesthesia, ultrasound, and catheterization through training pathways. Nights, weekends, and holidays are required on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ year in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and a steady support, triaging incoming patients and guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork and imaging.
• Work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation cases.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings and join rounds for continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER training during the role.
• Grow into advanced responsibilities through guided training pathways.
