Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced ER team. You will support triage, nursing care, anesthesia setup, and post-care monitoring while learning on the job from credentialed technicians and veterinarians.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours and lift up to 25 kg solo (40 kg with assistance).
• Willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays on rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Triages incoming patients and guides them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with clinicians.
• Manage IV fluids, blood products, and medication administration.
• Support both outpatient and inpatient care across rooms and treatment areas.
• Participate in rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities through guided training paths.
