Job summary

VEG is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant in Seattle to support high‑volume emergency care from day one. You’ll triage, assist with treatments, and partner with credentialed staff to deliver fast, compassionate care for pets and their families.

You’ll grow through guided training pathways, learning CPR, anesthesia support, ultrasound, and other advanced duties while thriving in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• At least 1 year in veterinary assistant role, emergency experience a bonus.
• Good computer skills and EMR familiarity.
• Strong communication with pet parents and team.
• Ability to stand, lift up to 25 kg, and work in a noisy, odorful environment.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome, triage patients, and guide to care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics including bloodwork and imaging.
• Work with technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation setup.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, transfusions, and meds.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings; assist rounds.
• Stay close to the clinical picture for continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training (provided).
• Grow into advanced tasks like anesthesia support and ultrasound.
• Follow state law and hospital needs for shift coverage.
