Qualifications

• Experience using electronic test equipment, scan tools, wiring diagrams, repair manuals, and technical documentation.
• Valid and current California driver’s license with a clean or acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical and electronic systems across a diverse emergency response vehicle fleet.
• Repair and test wiring, circuits, switches, relays, fuses, connectors, batteries, charging systems, emergency lighting, radios, communication equipment, and vehicle accessories.
• Use scan tools, electronic diagnostic equipment, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and repair information to identify and resolve system issues.
• Diagnose and repair onboard computers, electronic control components, A/C systems, HVAC systems, and related vehicle systems.
• Perform safety inspections, preventative maintenance, test drives, and repair verification to ensure vehicles are safe and fully operational.
• Document repairs, labor time, parts, equipment, and supplies accurately using computerized repair orders.

This role supports a fleet of 100+ emergency response vehicles, including specialty trucks, SUVs, and sedans, with a strong focus on electrical systems, electronics, diagnostics, communications equipment, emergency lighting, onboard computers, HVAC, and specialized vehicle accessories.

Key Responsibilities

Compensation and Benefits

• Job Type: Direct Hire.
• Location: Bakersfield, CA.
• Salary Range: $33.00 to $36.00 per year.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Diagnose and repair emergency vehicle electrical, electronic, communication, lighting, and accessory systems.
• Troubleshoot complex wiring, circuit, battery, charging, HVAC, and vehicle computer system issues.
• Perform safety inspections, preventative maintenance, repair documentation, and post-repair testing.
• Communicate vehicle status, repair needs, scheduling updates, and parts requirements with management.
• 3 to 5 years of hands-on automotive, fleet, electrical, or diagnostic repair experience.
• Strong automotive electrical troubleshooting skills, including wiring, circuits, relays, connectors, switches, and electronic components.
• Experience using electronic test equipment, scan tools, wiring diagrams, repair manuals, and technical documentation.
• Working knowledge of automotive computer systems, communication equipment, speakers, radios, auxiliary lighting, and vehicle accessories.
• Ability to diagnose and repair A/C and HVAC systems.
• Experience with Ford, Chevrolet, and GMC vehicles.
• Ability to diagnose basic mechanical issues when needed, including steering, suspension, hydraulic brakes, power steering, gasoline, and diesel systems.
• Valid and current California driver's license with a clean or acceptable driving record.
• Ability to provide necessary personal hand tools.
• Ability to work occasional overtime, weekends, or holidays when operationally necessary.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently in a professional fleet environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• ASE Certification, or willingness to work toward certification.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience with light-, medium-, or heavy-duty vehicles.
• GM Duramax and Ford Power Stroke experience.
• Prior experience working on emergency response vehicles, specialty vehicles, public safety vehicles, or upfitted fleet vehicles.
