Job summary

The County of Los Angeles, Office of the Assessor, is seeking qualified candidates for emergency Staff Assistant, Assessor positions related to recent natural disasters. Under an emergency order, hires may be limited to 90 days with a possibility of permanent County employment.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of highly specialized clerical experience involving public contact regarding property tax assessment practices and procedures.
• One (1) year of experience working for an elected official as a field representative responding to a variety of customer, constituent or taxpayer inquiries and problems.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the investigation of and makes recommendations for appropriate action on routine complaints of assessment problems and related matters in the Executive Office of the Assessor.
• Answers inquiries from customers, constituents, taxpayers or representatives of other public agencies and prepares correspondence on property tax assessment problems, property valuation, and other routine matters.
• Works with other County departments to expedite resolution of problems.
• Keeps necessary records and controls to ensure timely handling of complaints and inquiries.
• Assists in providing press releases from the Executive Office of the Assessor's Department.
