Job summary

Midwestern University—Animal Health Institute seeks a Specialty Care Veterinary Technician, Emergency (evening shift) to support the Companion Animal Clinic with advanced, patient-focused care. You will perform complex procedures, manage critically ill patients, assist with diagnostics, and mentor students in a teaching hospital setting.

The role advances through Level I–III based on competency, leadership, and teaching ability, with shifts typically 4:00pm–12:30am, Mon–Fri, and flexible changes

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CVT preferred or strongly preferred for higher levels.
• Willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Ability to work in a teaching hospital environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with exams, diagnostics, treatments, and specialty procedures for outpatients and inpatients.
• Monitor critically ill patients and assist with emergency interventions.
• Collect and process diagnostic samples (blood gases, cytology, labs).
• Administer medications including IV fluids and emergency drugs.
• Provide patient care and mentoring for veterinary students.
