Job summary

MedVet is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Technician for overnights in our San Jose, CA team. The role focuses on fast-paced ER care, patient prioritization, and collaboration with the care team to deliver high-quality treatment.

You will handle rounds, anesthesia induction, in-house labs, and client education. Eligible candidates are RVTs with prior ER experience and strong calculation skills; state license preferred. Competitive hourly pay with evening and weekend differentials.

Qualifications

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, dosages, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Collaborate with patient care team regarding treatment plans and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions and medications.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside testing.

Proposed Schedule: Wednesday-Saturday 4pm-2a

Compensation:

The hiring range for this position is $28.25 - $44.00/hour based on skillset and experience. We support our evening caregivers with lucrative shift differentials:

• -Hours worked between 8pm-11:59pm = base pay +$4/hour
• -Hours worked between 12am-8am = base pay +$6/hour
• -Hours worked on Saturday and Sunday (day or night) = base pay + $3/hour + any applicable differentials.

Whatyou’lldo:

Who you are:

• State Registered Veterinary Technician licensepreferred
• Prior veterinary experiencerequired,previousemergencyexperience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to workadditionalhours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
