Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability and willingness to relate with others in a respectful manner and work well as a team member.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries with program participants and refer them to case management staff.
• Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of persons who are materially poor and/or homeless, and the ability to be comfortable working with persons of all socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.
• An understanding and respect for the confidentiality of clients.
• Ability to organize oneself, one’s work, and other persons sufficiently to accomplish the required daily tasks.
• Knowledge of floor and building maintenance; basic handyperson skills.

Responsibilities

• Assists with daily/weekly/monthly housekeeping tasks.
• Assigns volunteer tasks to shelter guests and supports task completion.
• Ensures safety and security by communicating guest expectations and conducting perimeter checks.
• Responds to emergencies following shelter protocols.
• Supervises children with parents and facilitates activities.
• Monitors supplies and informs supervisors when reorders are needed.
• Supports resident activities and events.
• Assists clients with daily activities and resource navigation.
• Maintains accurate attendance records and sign-ins.
• Mediates conflicts to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
• Stays awake during on-duty hours.
