Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking an Emergency Room Technician (ERT) for our East Bank University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. The ERT assists nurses, transports patients and supplies, and helps prepare patient rooms, with duties expanding based on unit needs.

The role requires BLS and one of several certifications or nursing program enrollment, plus prior patient care experience. Night shifts, 0.80 FTE, with weekend rotation.

Qualifications

• Must have BLS certification.
• One of EMT/ERT, Paramedic, CNA MN Registry, or enrolled in a nursing program with clinical experience.
• Six months of hands-on patient care experience or completion of Fairview OnTrack Nursing Assistant program.
• LPN licensure is acceptable.
• No software or hardware requirements specified.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients by wheelchair or cart and assist with ambulation.
• Support RN in delivering patient care and maintaining rooms and supplies.
• Document care activities clearly and timely in nursing records.
• Restock rooms, restock carts, and perform room preparation between patients.
• Perform quality checks on equipment and report discrepancies.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for an Emergency Room Technician (ERT) to join our ED team at our East Bank University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. The Emergency Room Technician (ERT) assists the professional nurse in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies. Depending on unit needs and the discretion of the professional nurse, the ERT may be assigned patient care responsibilities.

Schedule

Schedule: This position will be working 0.80 FTE (64 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours night shifts 11pm-7:30am with an every other weekend rotation.

Job Expectations

Provides patient care:

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart
• Assists patients with ambulation and positioning
• Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns
• Promptly responds to patient call lights/requests
• Demonstrates concern for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality
• Performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients ages and developmental abilities
• Obtains ordered specimens from patient
• Transports specimens and blood products
• Demonstrates adherence to proper procedures
• Assists in resuscitation
• Functions as nurse extender: assists nurses with patient care activities

Documents patient care activities and procedures on the nursing records.

• Documentation is clear, concise, accurate and timely

Maintains room/unit and supplies

• Restocks room, supplies, and carts
• Assists with patient room clean-up between patients
• Completes room and cart checklist

Performs quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment

• Completes quality control checklist
• Reports discrepancies and malfunctions to charge nurse or manager

Required Qualifications (Must have BLS certification and ONE of the following)

• Current EMT or ERT certification
• Current Paramedic certification
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MN Registry
• Enrolled in an LPN, RN, or NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester)
• Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care)
• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program
• LPN licensure

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of Emergency Department experience (EMT, ERT, paramedic, scribe, etc.)
• Current experience as a CNA or NST
