Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking an Emergency Room Technician (ERT) to join the ED team at the West Bank Building in Minneapolis, MN. You will assist nurses, transport patients and supplies, and maintain patient rooms in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires BLS and one of several clinical credentials, plus recent patient care experience. Night shifts are 12 hours with a weekend rotation; 0.75 FTE. Benefits include medical, dental, and retirement options.

Qualifications

• Must have BLS certification and one of the listed credentials.
• Current EMT/ERT, Paramedic, CNA MN Registry, or enrolled in LPN/RN/NP program.
• Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience.
• Completion of Fairview OnTrack Nursing Assistant training or LPN licensure may satisfy requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist nurses with patient care activities as a nurse extender.
• Transport patients and equipment; maintain patient rooms and supplies.
• Document care activities in nursing records clearly and promptly.
• Restock rooms, supplies, and carts; keep rooms clean between patients.
• Perform quality control checks on equipment and report discrepancies.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for an Emergency Room Technician (ERT) to join our ED team at our West Bank Building in Minneapolis, MN. The Emergency Department at UMMC West Bank is part of Minnesota's premier academic medical center and serves as a major receiving center for behavioral health patients. Team members care for a diverse and complex patient population in a fast-paced, collaborative environment alongside leading physicians, nurses, and specialists. The department provides exposure to emergency medicine, critical care, behavioral health, and surgical services while fostering innovation, teamwork, and exceptional patient care. The Emergency Room Technician (ERT) assists the professional nurse in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies. Depending on unit needs and the discretion of the professional nurse, the ERT may be assigned patient care responsibilities,

Schedule

0.75 FTE (60 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 12 hours on the night shift 7pm-7:30am with a third weekend rotation.

Job Expectations

Provides patient care:

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart
• Assists patients with ambulation and positioning
• Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns
• Promptly responds to patient call lights/requests
• Demonstrates concern for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality
• Performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients ages and developmental abilities
• Obtains ordered specimens from patient
• Transports specimens and blood products
• Demonstrates adherence to proper procedures
• Assists in resuscitation
• Functions as nurse extender: assists nurses with patient care activities

Documents patient care activities and procedures on the nursing records.

• Documentation is clear, concise, accurate and timely

Maintains room/unit and supplies

• Restocks room, supplies, and carts
• Assists with patient room clean-up between patients
• Completes room and cart checklist

Performs quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment

• Completes quality control checklist
• Reports discrepancies and malfunctions to charge nurse or manager

Required Qualifications (Must have BLS certification and ONE of the following):

• Current EMT or ERT certification
• Current Paramedic certification
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MN Registry
• Enrolled in an LPN, RN, or NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester)
• Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care)
• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program
• LPN licensure

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of Emergency Department experience (EMT, ERT, paramedic, scribe, etc.)
• Current experience as a CNA or NST
