Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking an Emergency Room Technician (ERT) to support the ED team at East Bank University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. The ERT assists nurses with patient care, transports patients and equipment, and maintains patient rooms and supplies.

The role requires BLS and an EMT/ERT certification (or equivalent) with preferred CNA pathways and a Fairview OnTrack Nursing Assistant training background. Evening shifts, with every other weekend rotation, are included.

Qualifications

• Current EMT or ERT certification required.
• Current Paramedic certification required.
• CNA on MN Registry required.
• Enrolled in LPN/RN/NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester) required.
• Six months of hands-on patient care experience required.
• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program preferred.
• LPN licensure required.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart; assists with ambulation and positioning.
• Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns; responds to call lights.
• Documents patient care activities clearly and timely on nursing records.
• Maintains room, supplies, and carts; restocks as needed; cleans rooms between patients.
• Performs quality control checks on equipment; reports discrepancies.
• Assists in resuscitation and acts as nurse extender when needed.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for an Emergency Room Technician (ERT) to join our ED team at our East Bank University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. The Emergency Room Technician (ERT) assists the professional nurse in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies. Depending on unit needs and the discretion of the professional nurse, the ERT may be assigned patient care responsibilities.

Schedule

Schedule: This position will be working 0.80 FTE (64 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours evening shifts 3pm-11:30pm with an every other weekend rotation.

Job Expectations

Provides patient care:

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart
• Assists patients with ambulation and positioning
• Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns
• Promptly responds to patient call lights/requests
• Demonstrates concern for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality
• Performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients ages and developmental abilities
• Obtains ordered specimens from patient
• Transports specimens and blood products
• Demonstrates adherence to proper procedures
• Assists in resuscitation
• Functions as nurse extender: assists nurses with patient care activities

Documents patient care activities and procedures on the nursing records.

• Documentation is clear, concise, accurate and timely

Maintains room/unit and supplies

• Restocks room, supplies, and carts
• Assists with patient room clean-up between patients
• Completes room and cart checklist

Performs quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment

• Completes quality control checklist
• Reports discrepancies and malfunctions to charge nurse or manager

Required Qualifications (Must have BLS certification and ONE of the following)

• Current EMT or ERT certification
• Current Paramedic certification
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MN Registry
• Enrolled in an LPN, RN, or NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester)
• Six months of recent hands‑on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care)
• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program
• LPN licensure

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of Emergency Department experience (EMT, ERT, paramedic, scribe, etc.)
• Current experience as a CNA or NST
