Job summary

The Salvation Army in Independence, MO is seeking a dedicated Caseworker Assistant to interview and assist clients seeking emergency help. You will screen requests, determine eligibility, and help with applications for emergency assistance, commodities, and seasonal sign-ups.

You will maintain accurate records, prepare FEMA files, submit monthly statistics, and build partnerships with local agencies to support families on the road to self-sufficiency.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; two years of college in Human Services; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Two years of experience with low income and minority populations.
• Must complete The Salvation Army’s Caseworker Certification Program within 90 days of hire.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with others; proficient with office equipment.

Responsibilities

• Interview, evaluate and assist clients seeking emergency assistance.
• Screen callers/visitors for immediate emergency needs.
• Pre-qualify requests and determine eligibility via interviews, records and third-party sources.
• Refer clients to other agencies per Salvation Army guidelines.
• Assist clients in completing applications for emergency assistance and related programs.
• Track funds and maintain financial records using spreadsheets and MAAC Link.
• Prepare FEMA files annually and submit monthly statistics to TSA.
• Develop relationships with community agencies and coordinate outreach.
• Collaborate with the Pathway Of Hope case manager and refer to POH.
