Job summary

Minnesota Department of Transportation is seeking an On Call Snow Plow Operator in Pine River for emergency coverage during snow and ice seasons. Work shifts alternate between day/night blocks, with 12-hour spans, Monday through Friday availability, and a non-full-time, on‑call schedule.

Responsibilities include plowing, equipment prep, weather-edge inspections, stockpile handling, fence installation, and documenting inventory data.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in snow and ice, soils, road/sidewalk maintenance, or related activities.
• Education substitution: completion of Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance program may substitute for one year of experience.
• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement.
• Working knowledge of English for reading, writing, speaking and logging.

Responsibilities

• Maintain roadways for snow and ice control.
• Prepare and inspect winter equipment.
• Perform preseason snow route inspection and post-storm cleanup.
• Manage winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti-icing/de-icing chemicals.
• Install, repair, maintain and remove snow fences and replace mailboxes.
• Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for inventory and resource management.
• Perform traffic control set-ups and notify dispatch of disabled vehicles.
