An EMT provides Basic Life Support (BLS) services for emergency and non-emergency requests, assigned by the appropriate dispatch authority. The role involves ensuring the safe and prompt transportation of patients while delivering care in a professional manner. This position requires flexibility and may involve working in hazardous conditions and uncontrolled environments, with appropriate PPE.
The EMT must use critical thinking to assess, triage, communicate, treat, and transport patients of all ages across various settings, including emergency and non-emergency transport, standby, and special events. The role involves seamless coordination with other emergency agencies such as police, fire, ALS, and healthcare providers in inpatient and outpatient settings. Accurate completion of patient care reports and support of daily operational tasks are essential.
All actions must comply with the State of New Jersey Regulations (N.J.A.C. 8:40) regarding EMTs, as well as HMH protocols, policies, and procedures for BLS services.
