Job summary

The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. invites applications for a part-time (adjunct) Emergency Medical Services faculty position based at the Dayton campus. The role involves teaching EMT and Paramedic curriculum with emphasis on real‑world outcomes and student success.

Starting pay is $1,046 per credit hour assigned. Adjunct instructors will contribute to program development, student assessment, and professional development while balancing a teaching schedule at a community college setting in

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree preferred
  • Must be a licensed Ohio Paramedic
  • Must be Ohio licensed Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I or II
  • AHA ACLS Instructor preferred
  • AHA CPR Instructor preferred
  • At least 2 years paramedic level patient care experience
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning
  • Prepare and provide syllabi for assigned sections per policies
  • Employ appropriate teaching strategies and use instructional technology
  • Modify teaching methods to meet diverse student needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote student learning
  • Evaluate and return student work promptly
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters by deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Adjunct cannot exceed 12 credit hours per semester

Position Summary

With the EmergencyMedical Services program, students acquire the skills tobecome Emergency Medical Technicians ( EMT ) and Paramedics whoprovide out-of-hospital care to the critically ill and injured.EMT’s and Paramedics must be capable of functioning with authorityand good judgment in a variety of circumstances under difficult andstressful conditions, and must be caring persons with the desire tohelp others.

The Emergency Medical Services program is currently seekingpart-time (adjunct) faculty to teach face-to-face at our downtownDayton campus. The starting pay for Adjunct Faculty is $1,046 percredit hour assigned to teach.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by thedepartment
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize studentlearning
  • Prepare and provide syllabi for all assigned sections inaccordance with department and divisional policies
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, useavailable instructional technology when appropriate
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategiesto meet diverse student’s needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote studentsuccess
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promotelearning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters according to establisheddeadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Adjunct Faculty cannot be assigned to teach more than themaximum of 12 credit hours per semester
Requirements
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required;associate’s degree preferred
  • Must be a licensed Ohio Paramedic required
  • Must be Ohio licensed Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Ior II
  • AHA ACLS Instructor preferred
  • AHA CPR Instructor preferred
  • Must have at least 2 years of paramedic level patient careexperience required
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching experience ispreferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning throughinnovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the courseand program level
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with theability to work successfully in a community collegeenvironment
  • Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educationaltechnology, including multimedia-based instruction
