Job summary

County Emergency Communications is seeking Emergency Medical Dispatchers to support urgent medical responses. You will gather patient and incident information, establish priorities, and coordinate emergency resources, following approved protocols.

Depending on training and assignment, you may provide approved instructions before responders arrive and participate in ongoing quality reviews. This role involves extended console work and may include overnight shifts or weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or recognized equivalent commonly required.
• CPR certification may be required.
• EMT or paramedic credentials are not universal requirements; consult vacancy for exact qualifications and certification providers.

Responsibilities

• Receive calls involving illness, injury, and other medical emergencies
• Confirm patient’s location, callback number, and access details
• Ask approved questions about patient’s condition
• Determine response priority through the authorized medical dispatch system
• Dispatch or coordinate ambulance resources when included in the assignment
• Provide protocol-based instructions within current qualifications
• Relay patient information and scene hazards to responding personnel
• Document call processing and participate in quality-review activities
