With training and certification, dispatchers may provide approved instructions before responders arrive, following employer protocols and oversight requirements.

Formación

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent; dispatcher certification may be required.
• CPR certification may be required; EMT/paramedic credentials are not universal requirements.

Responsabilidades

• Receive calls involving illness, injury, and other medical emergencies.
• Confirm patient location, callback number and access details.
• Ask approved questions about patient condition.
• Determine response priority through the authorized medical dispatch system.
• Dispatch or coordinate ambulance resources when assigned.
• Provide protocol-based instructions within current qualifications.
• Relay patient information and scene hazards to responding personnel.
• Document call processing and participate in quality-review activities.
