Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking an experienced Emergency Management Coordinator to develop plans for preparedness, response and recovery from unusual emergencies. You will lead and support exercises, coordinate trainings, and strengthen regional readiness with partners across agencies.

The role leverages expertise in emergency management and All Hazards planning, in a state‑of‑the‑art Operations Center, with a focus on resilience and public safety for a growing county.

Qualifications

• Two years of professional experience in program or project management for emergency management.
• Bachelor's degree in emergency management public or business administration, or a related field.
• A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Lead and assist in the planning and implementation of Department programs, projects, and initiatives.
• Develop, update, maintain, and evaluate emergency management plans, SOPs, and manuals for the County; review policies and programs for compliance.
• Foster collaborative relationships with local, state, and federal agencies and other stakeholders.
• Design, coordinate, and conduct trainings and exercises in accordance with Training and Exercise Plans.

As an Emergency Services Coordinator, no two days are the same. You will be at the forefront of regional safety, helping prepare for and respond to a diverse range of challenges, from extreme heat and flash floods to wildfires, major special events, and complex all-hazards emergencies.

In this critical role, you'll develop and maintain emergency plans, provide technical expertise in All Hazards, support training and exercises, and collaborate with Maricopa County, partner cities, towns, tribal nations, and other emergency management stakeholders to strengthen regional preparedness and response.

We Require

• Two years of professional experience in program or project management for emergency management
• Bachelor's degree in emergency management public or business administration, or a related field
• A combination of post‑secondary education and/or job‑related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year‑for‑year basis

Other Requirements

• Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire
• Completion of FEMA IS‑100, IS‑200, ICS‑300, ICS‑400, IS‑700, IS‑800, IS‑120.c, IS‑230.d, IS‑235.c, IS‑240.b, IS‑241.b, IS‑242.b, IS‑244.a, and IS‑2200 or the ability to complete within one year of the hire date
• Experience utilizing National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Command System (ICS), Comprehensive Preparedness Guide (CPG) 101, and Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP)
• Works a rotational schedule as an on‑call duty officer on a recurring basis after hours and on weekends

We Also Value

• Master’s degree in emergency management or Homeland Security from an accredited college or university
• Experience working in local, state, tribal, or federal emergency management
• Experience working in an Emergency Operations Center during a disaster or emergency
• FEMA Professional Development Series (PDS) and Advanced Professional Series (APS) Certificates of Completion
• Completion of or progress towards the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Certified Emergency Manager or Associate Emergency Manager
• Operate and maintain emergency warning and notification systems
