Job summary

Athens-Clarke County is seeking an Emergency Management Coordinator to provide community education, planning support, and logistical help to the Emergency Management division. The role includes assisting in county-wide planning operations, developing community education programs, and offering Community Emergency Response Team trainings, plus support during response operations such as shelter setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public administration or related discipline with two years of emergency management experience.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Most possess or obtain State of Georgia Certified Emergency Manager certification within 18 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Administers a variety of special departmental programs.
• Acts as a liaison and coordinator between county agencies, private sector, local jurisdictions, State and Federal agencies, and/or other related programs.
• Prepares grant applications and administers grants.
• Develops and writes reports. Prepares County for an emergency and/or natural disaster and determines potential hazards and implements mitigation plans.
• Administers applicable State and Federally mandated programs.
• Responds to emergency and/or disaster situations. Assists in the coordination of emergency resource allocations, personnel and materials, and the dissemination of public information in a disaster situation.
• Recognizes hazardous weather conditions and monitors and relays weather conditions utilizing weather tracking systems.
• Plans, designs and executes emergency response exercises; operates emergency communication systems and equipment; activates and staffs the emergency operation center; and assists in recovery activities in the event of an emergency.
• Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, draws conclusions, and makes appropriate recommendations.
• Operates computers and related software applications.
• Coordinates disaster recovery efforts and plans.
• Communicates effectively with co-workers, supervisor, the general public and others to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
