Job summary

The City of Gulfport is seeking an IT Support Specialist to install, configure and upgrade operating systems and software, and to provide frontline help desk support for city staff. The role includes some nights and weekend work and requires hands-on hardware and network troubleshooting.

Two years of college-level coursework in computer science or IT plus two years of related experience are required, with valid Mississippi driver's license; A+ and Microsoft certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

Equivalent to two years of college coursework in computer science or IT and two years of related experience.
Alternatively, an equivalent education and experience combination to perform essential duties.

Responsibilities

Installs, configures and upgrades operating systems and software for city systems.
Configures computers, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals; assists in office reconfigurations.
Troubleshoots hardware, software, e‑mail, network and peripheral issues; performs repairs as needed.
Staffs a centralized help desk and guides users; coordinates with outsource providers when necessary.
Instructs staff in standard software usage and provides documentation when required.
Maintains knowledge of hardware, software and network tech; reports needed modifications.
