Job summary

City of Suffolk is seeking a dedicated firefighter/EMT to perform fire suppression, emergency rescue, and hazmat response. The role involves operating equipment and vehicles, providing medical care per certification, and performing station maintenance and fire inspections.

Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED, complete firefighter training, and hold EMT-Intermediate certification; ACLS/PALS and field training are highly valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of Firefighter Recruit Academy or equivalent experience.
• EMT-Intermediate certification or higher preferred.
• ACLS/PALS certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency calls for fire suppression, rescue, hazmat, and medical incidents.
• Inspects and maintains equipment; performs fire inspections and station upkeep.
• Provides first aid and medical care per certification; stabilizes patients at incidents.
• Operates and drives fire/emergency apparatus; lays water, controls streams, and rescues.
• Prepares reports, logs, and maintains records; coordinates with other agencies as needed.
