Job summary

DU-COMM seeks a full-time Telecommunicator in Wheaton, IL to handle 9-1-1 calls for Police, Fire, and EMS with precision. You will train on DU-COMM protocols, operate CAD and radio systems, and coordinate responses across shifts.

Requires a high school diploma or GED, 18+ years, strong English skills, and ability to pass Criticall testing and a typing test at 35 wpm. Competitive benefits and paid training are included.

Qualifications

• On-site work required; no remote work.
• Must be able to work all shifts including weekdays, weekends and holidays; 3-week rotation of regular days off with 1 weekend off every 3 weeks.
• Reliable attendance is essential.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old; High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must pass typing test at least 35 wpm and pass Criticall testing.
• Must be proficient in English, verbal and written, including proper usage and grammar.

Responsibilities

• Train on all DU-COMM and member agency protocols to complete certification programs for Call Taking then Police/Fire.
• Answer 9-1-1 and other calls for Police, Fire, EMS with accuracy.
• Communicate promptly and courteously with citizens and personnel.
• Data entry on requests for service, track unit status, verify details.
• Monitor radio channel and dispatch calls to units; coordinate additional response as needed.
• Notify outside agencies as required; utilities, public works, etc.
• Operate CAD, telephone, radio, mapping, and other software; use available resources.
• Become certified in EMD, EFD, LEADS, NIMS, CPR, etc.
