Job summary

Ascension in Austin, TX, is seeking an Emergency Dispatch & Clinical Communication professional to ensure rapid response and accurate routing of critical calls across 13 hospital locations. The role involves monitoring life-safety systems, executing emergency procedures, and coordinating multi-specialty on-call schedules with nurses and providers.

Qualified candidates will have crisis dispatch experience, stress resilience, and strong technical agility across CAD, paging, and EHR platforms.

Qualifications

• Minimum: High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of relevant experience.
• Licensure/certification can substitute education/experience where applicable.
• Experience in emergency dispatch or high-volume healthcare transfer/dispatch operations is required.
• Ability to remain calm and decisive during life-safety emergencies.
• Proficiency navigating CAD, phone queues, telemetry/paging, and EHR systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with clear instruction delivery.
• Strictly follow safety protocols, HIPAA, and SLAs.

• Schedule: Day Shift l Sunday - Saturday 8:30a - 4:30p w/ Rotating Weekends & Holidays

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Dispatch critical emergency communications across 13 hospital locations to guarantee calls are answered immediately and routed with 100% accuracy.
• Monitor life-safety alarm panels and trigger emergency procedures during high-stress incidents to protect patients, staff and facilities.
• Manage complex multi-specialty on-call schedules alongside nurses and providers to ensure life-saving care is always accessible.
• Deliver real-time patient, staff and department data to clinical teams, serving as a vital central link in network care delivery.
• Maintain operational documentation and contact schedules to ensure every department has the correct contact at the right time.

Education

What minimum requirements you’ll need

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
• Crisis Dispatch & Triage Experience: Proven experience in emergency dispatch, public safety communications, 911 call handling, or high-volume healthcare transfer/dispatch operations.
• Stress Resilience & Composure: Demonstrated ability to remain laser-focused, decisive, and calm when managing life-safety emergencies, distressed callers, and rapidly changing environments.
• High-Speed Technical Agility: Advanced proficiency in navigating CAD dispatch software, multi-line phone queues, telemetry/paging platforms, and electronic health record (EHR) databases simultaneously.
• Elite Verbal & Written Communication: Clear, articulate speech and active listening skills, with the ability to convey urgent instructions and critical patient information rapidly without misinterpretation.
• Strict Protocol Adherence: Strong attention to detail with an uncompromised commitment to following safety protocols, HIPAA regulations, and departmental SLAs (Service Level Agreements)
