Job summary

Novant Health is seeking an Emergency Dept. Technician for a fulltime mid‑shift at Scotts Hill Medical Center. You will deliver patient‑centered care, support daily activities, and collaborate with nurses to ensure safe, efficient care.

Role requires Nurse Aide I licensure, BLS, and a minimum of one year of Nurse Aide experience; phlebotomy certification is a plus. You will contribute to a compassionate, team‑driven department environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• One year of Nurse Aide experience is preferred.
• Nurse Aide I licensure is required.
• American Heart Association BLS certification is required; advanced CPR may be required in some departments.
• Phlebotomy Certification is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a helpful asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient-centered care and assist with daily activities to promote comfort and dignity.
• Collaborate with nurses and providers, share observations, and support care plans.
• Assist with ambulation, repositioning, and fall-prevention to promote safe recovery.
• Document vitals and patient status accurately to support clinical decision-making.
• Create a calm, supportive environment for patients and families during challenging moments.
• Perform department tasks and basic patient care activities under supervision.

• Schedule: 2:45pm - 3:15am, Mid Shift, Fulltime (Shift Differential)
• Department: Emergency Room
• Location: Novant Health Scotts Hill Medical Center

What You'll Do

• Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care by using your clinical experience to anticipate needs, support daily activities, and promote comfort and dignity throughout each patient’s stay.
• Serve as a trusted partner to nurses and providers, using your seasoned judgment to share meaningful observations, support care plans, and help the team stay aligned in a fast‑paced environment.
• Guide safe mobility and recovery efforts, drawing on your expertise to assist with ambulation, repositioning, and fall‑prevention practices that keep patients progressing safely.
• Ensure accurate, timely documentation of vitals and patient status, contributing reliable information that strengthens communication and supports excellent clinical decision‑making.
• Foster a calm, supportive environment for patients and families, using your experience to offer reassurance, set expectations, and help others feel grounded during challenging moments.

Works under the direct supervision of Nursing Leadership. Performs a variety of basic patient care activities in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. Is also responsible for completing a variety of department specific tasks to assist with optimal department safety and functioning.

What We're Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
• Experience: One year of Nurse Aide experience. Experience in basic patient care, phlebotomy, EKG in an emergency or outpatient setting highly desirable, preferred.
• Licensure/Certification:
  • Nurse Aide I, required.
  • American Heart Association BLS required, required. Some departments have additional advanced CPR requirements as listed on staff annual education record, required.
  • Phlebotomy Certification, preferred.
• Additional Skills (required):Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s) age. Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient's requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs.
• Additional Skills (preferred):Knowledge of medical terminology.
