Job summary

St. Tammany Health System is seeking an ED Technician to support nurses by delivering bedside care, performing specialized skills, and ensuring patient safety for assigned patients. This role operates within our acute care environment and adheres to hospital standards and procedures.

Qualified candidates will have CNA/EMT/PCT experience and a current BLS certification; those not certified at hire must obtain it within 3 months. Work shift is 7am-7pm, with hours TBD.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• One year of CNA experience in acute care OR EMT-Basic OR Patient Care Technician preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with hands-on skills check; if not certified at hire, obtain within 3 months.

JOB SUMMARY

The ED Technician is a specially trained bedside caregiver who assists the professional nursing staff in performing routine care, performs specialized technical skills, reports any unusual incident or findings, and maintains patient safety at all times to a group of patients for a designated time period. Care given by an ED Technician is in accordance with standards and procedures of the hospital.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School graduate or equivalent (i.e. GED) preferred.
• One (1) year experience as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) in the acute care hospital setting OR one (1) year experience as an EMT-Basic on an ambulance crew OR one (1) year experience as a Patient Care Technician preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an ILCOR-approved provider (e.g., Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross) with a hands-on manikin skills check.
• If not certified at the time of hire, obtaining an approved BLS certification within 3 months of your start date is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must possess good physical health.
• Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.
• Lifting at least 20 pounds is required.
• Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
• Physical Effort required: Constant (67%-100%) - seeing Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing Occasionally (1%-33%) - climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), stooping, crouching
