Job summary

The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) assists with patient care under the direction of a registered nurse, physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner at UCSF Health. Staff collaborate to meet patient needs and continually learn to deliver high-quality care and service.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year working as an ED Tech or EMT.
• Prior experience as a PCA or PCT in a high-volume department.
• GED or HS graduate.
• Current BLS certification.
• Ability to work effectively within a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations.
• Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
• Willingness to learn/new skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred).
• 3 years ED tech experience preferred.
• Phlebotomy license preferred.
• EMT/paramedic training or nursing student who has completed med-surg rotation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care under the direction of an RN, MD, PA or NP.
• Promote quality patient care and customer service through teamwork and effective communication.
• Demonstrate professionalism, honesty, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
