Job summary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program required.
• 1 year experience as a certified nursing assistant required.
• Experience as a care technician emergency medical technician or paramedic preferred.
• General health care experience in an acute care long-term care or other settings preferred.
• Student nurse in junior or senior year preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under supervision of nursing/medical staff and according to department policy.
• Assist with activities of daily living and personal hygiene.
• Collect specimens (blood, urine, sputum, stool) and perform phlebotomy.
• Obtain EKGs and insert IV catheters; change IV sites and dressings.
• Record vital signs, height/weight, and relevant data in health records.
• Maintain patient comfort, privacy, and dignity; assist with 1:1 observation and restraints as needed.
• Assist in patient examinations and procedures; report changes to care team.
• Educate patients and families on proper use of devices and care procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of patient rooms and nursing stations; assist with environmental services as needed.
• Transport and escort patients during discharges or appointments; restock supplies.
