Job summary

Baystate Health in Springfield, MA is hiring an ED Assistant to support nursing staff and physicians with direct patient care under the supervision of an RN. You will assist with screenings, transports, and basic personal care, while helping maintain a safe, clean, and organized Emergency Department.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, following infection control practices, documenting in patient records, and aiding in behavioral health protocols when needed.

Responsibilities

• Provides age-appropriate patient care under RN supervision.
• Observes patient conditions and reports to RN/MD/psychiatric clinician.
• Assists with direct patient care and personal care tasks.
• Takes vital signs and supports procedures per policy.
• Performs postmortem care and transports deceased promptly.
• Maintains equipment safety and unit cleanliness; reports faults.
• Uses de-escalation techniques and follows restraint guidelines when needed.
• Performs behavioral health duties when assigned, including documentation.
• Documents accurately in all systems and completes required reports.
• Attends training and meetings; keeps to policy updates.
